The ancient protective magic has faded away and for the first time in centuries, the residents of Pine Valley will need to defend themselves. Raise an army to fight back the invaders before it's too late.

Seamlessly switch between commanding your troops from above or fighting alongside them on the front lines. Advance through large-scale battles, upgrade existing units or recruit new ones along the way. How you build your army depends on where you lead it - as different battlefields grant access to different units and rewards.

Short Descriptions

Experience the chaos of battle through different perspectives - from the vulnerability of a foot soldier to the overwhelming strength of a rock golem. Each unit can affect the battle in their own way, whether it be holding the line or breaking through it.

Stay above the fray and let your soldiers do the work. Use commander abilities to influence the battle - spread out a crowd with a tornado or delete some enemies with a meteor shower.

Each round, choose your next battlefield carefully. Rewards after each victory are influenced by the environment of each battle.

Description

Protect Pine Valley is a roguelite where you lead your army through a series of battles across different environments. During each battle, you're free to switch back and forth between two modes. In commander mode, you can survey the field from above and issue tactical orders to your troops. Or, you can enter the fray yourself in soldier mode, taking control of any of your units from a third-person perspective to turn the tide firsthand.

Each run plays out across a branching map of possible battlefields. After each victory, you might be able to upgrade your troops, recruit new units, or unlock new abilities and bonuses for both commander and soldier modes. Be careful when plotting your path - the environment for each battle can influence the rewards and opportunities that await you.

Protect Pine Valley lets you approach each run in your own way. You can complete the game entirely from the commander's vantage or fight every battle firsthand in soldier mode or switch between the two as the situation demands. As you progress, you'll shape your own path of upgrades and advantages - maybe enhancing the units you control in soldier mode, or unlocking abilities that can only be used in commander mode. How you choose to fight - and how you choose to Protect Pine Valley - is entirely up to you.

Protect Pine Valley has been in development since late 2023. Beginning as a side project, it became the developer's full time focus in early 2025.
